Construction of Sejong Statue to Begin Tuesday

Construction has begun for a statue of King Sejong that will be displayed at downtown’s Gwanghwamun Square in October.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said construction of the statute began on Tuesday following the clay model’s approval by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Plaster will be applied to the clay model before bronze casting work begins on August 20th.

The new statue will be erected some 210 meters behind the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-shin in Gwanghwamun Square.

The statue of King Sejong, who created the Korean alphabet or “hangeul,” will be unveiled on October ninth, Hangeul Day.
