Jae-bum Out Forever from 2PM

It’s been made final that Jae-bum, former leader of idol group 2PM, will not be coming back to join the team forever. JYP entertainment disclosed on Thursday on its homepage that Jae-bum’s contract has been cancelled. The agency said that the problem that caused the cancellation of his contract is more serious in nature than the immature postings on the internet that ultimately drove Jae-bum out of the group in the first place. The agency reportedly wanted to inform the members of 2PM of this development at the end of last year, but the members were too elated to win big awards and expecting Jae-bum’s return. The news was delivered to 2PM members earlier in January, and after a long and intense discussion 2PM members unanimously agreed that it would be difficult to work together with Jae-bum under these circumstances. Some excerpts from JYP Entertainment’s announcement are provided below.

“The incident involving Jae-bum’s internet posting may have been disappointing for some people, but it wasn’t serious enough to merit complete departure from 2PM or the show business. Thanks to the outpouring support from his fans and his contrite attitude, we were seriously thinking about giving him another chance. We even found him trainers and instructors to keep him in the program, and included clauses that prepared for the possible return of Jae-bum in all 2PM-related contracts. A series of developments afterward led to the agency’s decision to have Jae-bum return to Korea in February and joining the group in March. The agency and other team members were looking forward to Jae-bum’s comeback.

However, Jae-bum called the agency late last year to admit that he made a terrible personal mistake when the group had released “Again and Again” last summer. The nature of the problem cannot be revealed because it’s a personal matter, but it is definitely more serious than the publicized postings and could cause more social repercussions. The agency, therefore, decided that Jae-bum is no longer fit to remain with the agency and cancelled his contract. We’re sorry to give such bad news to all the fans, who yearned for Jae-bum’s return, but the agency and the remaining six members of 2PM will work harder to answer your support.”
